We are hiring an Engineer Geotechnical





Duties and Responsibilities: 

The main responsibilities of the geotechnical engineer is to assist in all aspects of geotechnical programmes relating to Operation delivery, including: 

  • Geotechnical face mapping, logging and photogrammetry; 
  • Stability assessments, rock mass assessments and develop alternative slope hazard mitigation requirements as required or instructed; 
  • Ensure mine designs and the implementation of mine designs complies with the Slope/Dump Management Plan; 
  • Coordinate the collection of rock samples for testing, including; site selection and sample preparation under guidance from the Geotechnical Superintendent or Senior Geotechnical Engineer; 
  • Assist in the review and update of the Slope/Dump Management Plan under direction from the Geotechnical Superintendent or Senior Geotechnical Engineer; 
  • Contribute to the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of all geotechnical monitoring systems, such that they provide accurate and timely information for all mining activities and ensure the stability of the pit excavation; 
  • Provide QA/QC on all data collection and maintain databases;  
  • Assist the Senior Geotechnical Engineer with contractor management through the supervision of drill and sampling crews using standard work procedures as directed; 
  • Identify best practice through experience, diverse learning opportunities, and accepting guidance and mentorship from the Geotechnical Superintendent or Senior Geotechnical Engineer, and; 
  • Managing all HSEC related activities by anticipating current and future risks, and setting and monitoring objectives to ensure standards are met. As a Geotechnical Engineer at the company’s Open Pit, you will also be required to fulfill other responsibilities which relate to the focus areas of collaboration, people, strategic effectivenees and projects, systems and processes, such as:  
  • Collaborating with own team and peers in the mine environment to ensure effective application and dissemination of best practice, and; 
  • Contributing to decisions based on an understanding of the rock mechanical behaviours of the company in order to contribute to the safe and effective development of the resource.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated past experience operating in an Open Pit environment will be looked upon favourably. 
  • Membership of professional geological and/or mining society, such as; International Society of Rock Mechanics, SME, SEG, IMM, AusIMM etc.
  • University graduate qualifications in Geoscience or equivalent. A qualification in geotechnical engineering and/or mining geomechanics will be looked upon favourably.
  • At least 3 years relevant experience, or otherwise the significant practical experience and on the job training.

 

Contract term: 6 months
