Duties and responsibilities:
• To lead, coach and mentor the Occupational Hygiene team
• Develop and deliver the 12-month Health & Hygiene Management & Monitoring Plan and implementation schedule to meet relevant legislative and/or Rio Tinto standards and requirements
• Recommend control measures to mitigate hygiene risk and ensure adherence to all relevant standards and compliance standards and legislations.
• Undertake trend analysis of occupational exposure data and connection of data to occupational groups while also reporting on occupational hygiene to all levels of the business.
• Develop, implement and maintain health and hygiene related programs to ensure sites achieve ‘excellence in operations', to meet legal compliance and provide a safe and healthy working environment.
• Continuously improve OT Hygiene management standards, procedures, tools, and programs to enable the operations to effectively manage Hygiene risk and outcomes, including incorporating regulatory changes or industry learnings
• Engage and collaborate with business stakeholders including front-line and management on hygiene performance and compliance, hygiene risk reduction and improvement opportunities and control effectiveness of area hygiene programs and controls.
• Provide SME advice into operational & business activities on all health and hygiene impacts and risks
• Promote education and awareness of operational leaders and employees on occupational health and hygiene hazards including controls to mitigate risks.
• Evaluate, interpret and Occupational Hygiene related legislation ensure that the operations are in alignment with these legislations and conform with performance of the relevant Rio Tinto Standards.
• Undertaking strategic evaluations of developments in occupational hygiene risk management to determine future impacts on the company.
• Investigate or participate in the investigation of health and hygiene related incidents, develop reports, ensure corrective actions, and submit reports internally and to relevant regulatory authority as required.
• Develop and / or maintain relevant procedures, primarily the mandatory codes of practice, standards and license documents as required by the internal & external systems.
• Initiate and maintain effective working relationship and engagement and with all external authorities and stakeholders
• Participate in external forums on occupational health to identify and introduce best practice.
• Collaborate with non-government organizations, local communities, government, and regulatory agencies (regional), professional bodies and academic institutions to raise the occupational health profile of Oyu Tolgoi.
• Prepare and control the Occupational Hygiene team's annual budget by forecasting operating costs and monitoring expenditure monthly.
